Accompanying the Outside Insight exhibition is a series of concerts which aim to provide an opportunity to pause, listen, be refreshed and inspired.

Insight

Music speaks without the need for words. Each of our concerts is woven around a theme and tell us stories, some clear, others much less so. It is only you, the listener, who may discover what is hidden.

spirit and the maiden

Saturday 23 September, 7.30pm

Musical gems for piano, cello, viola and violin by women composers of the 19th to the 21st Century.

Teatime Trio

Sunday 24 September, 3pm

The Silk Mill Trio (piano, clarinet, viola) plays skittles with Mozart and tells tales by Bruch for a lyrical Sunday afternoon concert, with lashings of tea.

Bach – Out of the Blue

Wednesday 27 September, 7.30pm

Cellist, Emily Burridge plays Bach together with hypnotic compositions from her album ‘Out of the Blue’.

Goldberg

Thursday 28 September, 7.30pm

Jazz pianist, John Law, presents a multi-media programme of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, together with his own jazz compositions.

Beyond Boundaries

Friday 29 September, 7.30pm

A metaphorical journey into the unknown. From the home ground of the elegiac Elgar Quintet, we travel across land to the open sea through English art song. With baritone James Newby, winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award 2016 and OAE Rising Star 2017.

Legends

Saturday 30 September, 8.30pm

Join us for an ‘after-dinner’ concert of piano duets with Stephen Marquiss and Liz Kozlowski, set at a later time of 8.30pm. Legends of Bohemia, macabre dances and surreal carnival parades, with music by Dvorak, Saint-Saens and possibly Piazzolla…

Treasures of the Early Baroque

Sunday 1 October, 3pm

  Teatime concert of rarely heard gems from 17th Century Italy and France for up to 3 sopranos with archlute and baroque guitar from the Early Music specialists, Musicke in the Ayre.
